War's Wild Horses
Background:
My wild horse characters are from a book I've been planning, so their histories might be a tad confusing... The story is pretty much about many herds who live peacefully together called the Thinari. Fights are extremely rare among the herds, so none of the horses really know how to fight. So, when an enormous herd called the Brulthen invades the home of the Thinari they have no way to stop them. The Brulthen take over each of the herds, turning the Thinari into slaves and treating them brutally. However, a few horses are fighting back against the Brulthen, most of which are part of a herd called Arkara, who are hidden from the Brulthen.
Fayr
Raised by her dam in the depths of the wilderness, she has never before been part of a herd, and is hesitant about joining one. Though other horses simply submitted to the rule of the Brulthen, her dam ran away when Fayr was merely a foal. For years they hid from the vicious horses, watching as herds were torn apart and destroyed. Living in fear for so long has made Fayr cautious and timid, constantly searching for danger in her surroundings. This only became worse when they were discovered and her dam was killed, forcing her to run for her life. She succeeded, and is now unsure of what to do, though she is certain about keeping away from the Brulthen.

Pellin
When the Brulthen first invaded the home of the Thinari, his dearly loved mate died in one of the ferocious attacks, filling him with a deep, intense hate for the brutal newcomers. Not the only horse to feel this way, he attempted to strike back against the Brulthen with a small group of horses he had gathered, but failed. Since then Pellin has been a prisoner of the main herd, lead by an ambitious and violent stallion. But his rebellious nature still remained and he managed to escape, fleeing with a few others far away from the herds. Pellin decided to start a herd of his own, Arkara, and travels to herds in order to recruit new horses.

Iltari
When both her sire and dam were taken away by the Brulthen, she was left to fend for herself within the enormous main herd. Often sought after by the stallions for her beauty, she quickly learnt to become agile and fast, slipping amongst the other horses and disappearing when she had to. When Pellin was brought to the main herd as a prisoner, Iltari soon befriended him in exchange for protection, and went with him when he escaped. Strongly opposed to any sort of violence, she would rather run than fight and refuses to be taught how to attack another horse. Despite this, Iltari is still part of Arkara and is an excellent spy.

Kyda
Severely abused by her Brulthen parents for many years, she was eventually left for dead on the outskirts of the wilderness, barely alive and empty of hope or joy. Her recovery was slow, unable to return to her herd and not wanting to, living alone in the dark forests of the wild. Haunted by the memories of her spiteful parents, Kyda despises the company of other horses and harbours an extreme hate for the Brulthen. A self taught fighter, she is quick on her feet and attacks with powerful ferocity. In a battle against some stray Brulthen, Kyda incidentally meets Pellin and learns about Arkara. Though she isn’t keen on being part of a herd, the idea of rebellion is too good to refuse.

Validor
Despite the many difficulties that he has faced, many admire him for his ability to cheer up those around him with his infectious, cheerful nature. One of the few horses of his size and build, Validor was instantly targeted by the Brulthen, being ideally designed to overpower in battle. They captured not only him, but also his mate and young daughter, who were separated from him. When Validor made his escape from the main herd along with Pellin, he tried desperately to find his family, but was unable to. Forced to leave them behind and not knowing whether or not they live, it’s his bright smiles and humour that make him an admirable horse.

Sio
Though he is one of the many Brulthen that invaded the Thinari, he has always been viewed as a misfit and outcast because of his strange ways. Saying very little to anyone, most horses around him are afraid of him, keeping their distance and ignoring him whenever possible. The reason behind this exclusion is Sio’s strange fascination with fighting and killing other creatures, so strong that is almost an obsession. In an attempt to get rid of it, Sio ran away from the Brulthen, seeking the silence of the wilderness and deciding to keep away from others for good, so he wouldn’t be tempted to attack them.
